It all comes in at a price to put it in the hands of hard-working players everywhere, too, while packing sounds that set it apart from other classic Gibson models. The Nighthawk Standard 2010's single-cutaway body styling clearly echoes that of the legendary Les Paul Standard, and its dual humbucking pickups offer many of the same tones, though the Nighthawk's cutaway is deeper, with a sharper "Florentine" horn, and its added single-coil blade pickup in the center position and push-pull pots to split its humbuckers all extend its sonic range exponentially. Furthermore, the Nighthawk Standard 2010's 25 1/2" scale length adds extra shimmer and sparkle to the brew, and gives you a firm low-E string for gnarly low-down blues runs and biting twang. Through-body stringing and a unique and highly adjustable bridge design add outstanding resonance and sustain to this broad tonal range. Put it all together and the Nighthawk Standard 2010 gives you everything from wailing leads, funky tones in the 2 and 4 switch settings, to smooth, throaty blues and jazz.
On top of it all, it is still one of the best values around in an original-design Gibson for the 21st century.
Body and Finish
A lightweight body made from resonant chambered poplar with a highly figured Grade-AAA quilted maple top and a deep single cutaway with pointed "Florentine" horn distinguish the sleek Nighthawk Standard 2010. The guitar is available in your choice of three stunning translucent nitrocellulose finishes: Chicago Blue, St. Louis Sauce, or Memphis Mojo.
Pickups and Electronics
The Nighthawk Standard 2010 carries two of Gibson's BurstBucker pickups, known as some of the most accurate reproduction PAF-style humbuckers available today, along with a single-coil "Blade" pickup in the middle position. The coils of each humbucker can be split by push/pull switches on the Volume and Tone controls, and a five-way switch selects pickup(s) in use.
Neck, Fingerboard and Headstock
The Nighthawk Standard 2010 has a glued-in neck made from solid Grade-A maple and topped with a bound rosewood fingerboard, minimally adorned with simple dot inlays. Made to the longer 25 1/2" scale length, it has a back-angled headstock and a PLEK-cut Corian nut for superior resonance, and its slim profile is superbly fast while extremely comfortable in the hand.
Hardware
The guitar carries a unique Nighthawk bridge designed to maximize resonance and sustain. It has individual saddles for entirely independent height and intonation adjustment, and is partnered with through-body stringing with ferrules set into the back of the guitar. Other details include vintage-style tulip-button tuners, metal pickup rings, and traditional aluminum strap buttons, all gold plated. |
